Privacy Policy for Hanzi App

Last updated: June 8, 2026 | Effective Date: June 8, 2026

1. Overview & Commitment

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use the Hanzi mobile application.

Unlike typical modern apps that store user profiles in remote database clouds, Hanzi is engineered as an offline-first application. This means we design the application to function entirely within your local device ecosystem, preserving maximum digital privacy.

2. Personal Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or share any personal identity information.

  • No Email or Phone registration is required to use the app.
  • No cloud backup profiles containing name, age, or demographics are created.
  • No tracking algorithms or analytical identifiers track your location.

All learning statistics, streak parameters, and custom dictionary lists are stored purely inside your device's private sandboxed database.

3. Hardware & Storage Permissions Required

To provide rich educational functionality, Hanzi requests permissions to interact with specific device systems. These systems are used as follows:

Microphone Access

Used solely to capture your voice for active pronunciation exercises. The audio waves are evaluated immediately on-device using local speech recognition frameworks (such as Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer). Voice data is never recorded, saved, or uploaded to any remote server.

Internal Device Storage

Used to save, load, and cache custom vocabulary packages imported by the user (using structured JSON formats). This data remains strictly in your app's sandboxed storage and cannot be read by other applications.

4. Third-Party Services

Because Hanzi functions entirely offline without a centralized backend, we do not integrate with third-party tracking, analytical pipelines (like Firebase Analytics or Flurry), or external advertisement modules (like Google AdMob). There is zero data sharing with third-party brokers.

5. Children's Privacy

Our services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. Since we collect no data at all, parents can rest assured that their child's language learning environment remains completely private.

6. Contact & Data Deletion

As all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete your data at any time by:

  1. Deleting specific vocabulary decks within the app configuration panel.
  2. Uninstalling the Hanzi application from your iOS/Android device, which automatically purges the local sandboxed container.
